When shipping jewelry - or even delivering it locally - we always carefully clean, polish and wrap each item in tissue paper before putting it in its container.
After the cleaning and polishing we handle the jewelry with cotton gloves so we don't leave our fingerprints, and so we can give the piece its last gentle wipe before it goes into the tissue paper. The only exception to the tissue paper wrap is rings which all go into an inexpensive flocked ring box.
We have found that everyone loves unwrapping things, and it adds to the excitement of buying jewelry. Additionally, it's the special little extra touch that only takes a second or two to do.
Of course, it's important that the tissue paper is pristine (clean, no wrinkles) and is neatly folded around the item and strategically taped (we use little stickers with our logo on it.)
In reality the tissue paper is very inexpensive and adding that extra shine/polish will allow the client to receive the same excitement when they open it up that they originally had that prompted them to buy the piece.
Even if we supply a flocked bracelet or necklace box, we wrap the jewelry item and carefully place it inside the box, and then we tie a little red ribbon around the box.
Those extra little touches of love seem to make a difference.
