Hanging Earring Card / Business Card

I can't honestly remember what website I got this idea from but I have a gut feeling it might be this one. So thank you whoever you are that submitted it!

I order a lot of items from vistaprint.com. They offer business cards free.

So I designed a template (you can download design templates from the Vistaprint website - honestly they should pay me for advertising - I plug them all the time!!) in Photoshop with my logo doubled up sideways with a score mark in the middle and two dots for piercing holes.

Then I uploaded my picture (that isn't free, but it's only a few dollars), and got them printed.

I went on Ringsandthings.com and bought a bag of adhesive clear plastic hangers for the back.

When I got my cards I cut them in half on the mark, poked the holes with a awl and stuck on the plastic hangers on the back which go well with my rotating earring display from valuedisplay.com.

I think the earring cards total might have cost me $15 for 250. Not including the display which only cost I think about $25.

Great Idea!

I saw that same tutorial somewhere and will probably wind up doing it one day too! For now, though, I opted for pretty card stock with a sticker on the bottom that says my company's name and web site address. Couldn't figure out how to upload the picture but you can see my trial and errors of trying to create a handmade earring card on my blog: www.linnygirldesigns.com

I think maybe my business card is a little too simplistic to look as nice as your business/earring cards. That's kind of why I went with the actual cardstock. I did my cards at Vista Print too and they are a wonderful resource for low priced cards.

VistaPrint Tip!
by: Sara

VistaPrint often has many 'free' offers that can be taken advantage of! If you go to the website and click 'Free Offers' or something similar on the left panel, there is almost always one for business cards. From there, it is about $3.50 or so to upload a logo, then the rest (besides S&H is free). I got some cards there recently and was shocked they actually were as cheap as they were, as well as good quality! If you sign up for their newsletter, you will get all kinds of free offers in your email. Sounds to good to be true, but it actually pays off! Hope this helps any future purchasers :)

earring wire holes
by: Kathy

I bought a tiny hole punch from Michaels which is perfect for the tiny holes you need for ear hooks. Thanks for the suggestion of adding the markings so you know where the hole should be punched.

no holes on the cards

how did you poke holes in the blank clip cards? i don't see any in the picture on the website?

thank you.

Cards...
by: Janine

I did mark where the holes will go on the printout. You can barely see them once you poke the hole -
I just used a "."
When I got them I put a towel down on my worktable, put the cards on top and used a bead reamer to poke the hole.
You can also use many various things to get a good hole on the card such as fine tip tweezers, large sewing needle or and old earwire you don't care about. Good Luck! I would love to see other people's cards:)

Punching holes in earring cards
by: Rena

I also print tiny periods (dots) on my cards and use a bead reamer - but I set my cards down on top of an old magazine when I poke the holes.

I recall a jewelry artist mentioning that she uses a drill press to poke holes in a whole stack of earring cards at once - so that sounds like a great timesaver if you have that type of equipment!

I also remember multi-talented jewelry entrepreneur Cheryl Coccaro mentioning that she uses either a button hole punch or a tiny scrapbooking hole punch - I can't find where I read that from her, so I'm not sure which it was. :o)

Vistaprint/acidfree
by: Anonymous

I was going to order from vistaprint, but they do not have an option for acid free paper. If it is not acid free it is supposed to make your silver tarnish faster. What is you experience with this? Are your earrings stored on the cards also?

Hmmmmm...
by: janine

I didn't know that the paper tarnished silver quicker if it isn't acid free. Good thought. I have always stored the earrings on the cards since they have the pricing info and item numbers stuck on the back. So I can't really tell you if I polish them more but you can get the cards printed anywhere. I would love to polish less!!!
Just attach the plastic holders to the back of any business card you print.
Also...anyone needs a template of my earring cards I will be happy to send them a pdf template.
Respond to this page and I will e-mail it to you if that o.k. with Rena:)

Janine,
