I have just attended my first jewelry event, it was a girls night out for a non-profit domestic abuse center that had their resale store burn down earlier this year.

There were over 75 booths there on two floors!

Hundreds of women were waiting in line to get in, they had raffles with money, and all vendors donated a piece of their product for the charity.

The most inexpensive things we did made an impact on our display:

We had a banner made at a office supply store made for $50.00, and bought a cheap tripod stand to hold it.

We went out our local printer and had 100 bookmarks made for less than $30.00 that we gave to everyone stopping to see the display.

The Container Store has the best jewelry displays that are just like the ones in the store that are not expensive at all.

If you know a person that has a small jewelery store - ask them if they have a traveling case. Our friends volunteered to let us use the case for the evening, so for their trouble we put their business cards there along with flyers of an event they were having the next week.

The display has a silk piece of fabric with boxes underneath to highlight the pieces, and the biggest impact was the flowers my husband brought in - they loved the flowers!

As with anything else - trial and error is the only way we will see what works and what does not, we are just waiting to see if the traffic yields further interest in what we have to offer.

But at the same time the bigger picture was helping others that are in need, more than what I am selling at this time.

Your first jewelry event!
by: Rena

Nancy, I think you made a very lovely and professional showing for your first event!

Your table is pretty and uncluttered, with great access to your informational materials and the "Less than Perfect Angel" story. Great booth sign. I love your promo bookmarks too - fantastic idea!

The flowers from your thoughtful hubby are a wonderful touch - and I'm sure they gave you a boost all throughout the show.

Great tip for borrowing a display case from a friend, in exchange for giving their business some exposure.

Altogether it sounds like a successful and lovely showing - and I'm sure that no one there would have guessed it was your first jewelry event!

I like display old costume jewelry or different vintage pieces with display cases made from old windows. I took some of the smaller windows to use for a top and built the case it's self from wood found at the Habitat for Humanity store. Big piece for the bottom and the four sides, some wood glue, some screws, spary paint, sand paper, and old door hinges....the project was right around $20.00! Sorry for the miss spells, I hope this gives you more ideas :)

Hello Rena,

Thank you for the comments, they keep me going! I did not receive that much follow-up (yet) but when we do not see results we just keep moving.

It was funny, we were initially going to sell the bookmarks for one dollar just in cast we did not have any sales, but we went through the business cards so fast that we had to give them away- as long as the information is out there that's fine. We only had one sale- there were so many booths, we were just glad that the angel was part of the charity.

Thank you so much for your support in what I am doing along with the others here that are trying to achieve- independence and having the passion for making beautiful things.

Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for the suggestions, I will use them in the future. I do want to change the display, I do not want to look the same for every event we attend. This first one I had help from those that have been in the business of displaying; I was the student.

If it wasn't for my husband that put the display together and took it apart for me and all I had to do was show up- that was the best! He really enjoys helping me with keeping the blog and the website current along with the meetings and marketing representing when I cannot attend.

He designed the blog for daughters Beagle and my grand puppy Charlie called Less than perfect angel-pets! We are hand stamping dog tags, and the window display you spoke of would be great! But enough about him, I will look into the display design for the next show!

Thank You!

-Nancy
