Phoenix Dreams Craft Fair - Stanwick Lakes 2010 Craft Fair Display on a Budget

Displaying your jewellery with a small budget is hard. I recently started my own jewellery business with the help of The Princes Trust.

It's been a hard slog and managing to test trade with little funding is hard, as I wanted to give a good impression to my first customers. I found this website and got a lot of inspiration from it.

I wanted to share my pictures of what I came up with for my stall design. It's AKA47 as my better half calls it.

It's not perfect but it's a work in progress and I had great comments about my eye catching appearance on my stall. It's all about getting people's attention but working with a small budget.

You don't have to be limited even with a small budget.

Here's how I got round things:

Have a banner printed by Vistaprint
(very cheap and they look fab)

I used a washing clothes airer as you can see from the pictures, spray painted it white and that was the holder for my banner. Cost me less than £20 for all of that.

People actually stopped to view my banner and said how eye catching it was. I used some red and yellow grass dried flower stems at the sides and it really made me stand out.

Keep to two colours
and brand your items

People like branding. Don't stick to the normal black and white colour for displaying your jewellery, everyone seems to do that and you want to stand out from the crowd.

Add flowers or
decorative items to your stall

I paid about £3.00 for some plastic orange flowers, cut them up and spread them across my table. It looked very nice and again caught people's eye.

Once I had their attention, they could see the quality of my jewellery and that became a sale.

Buy busts

I got my display busts from eBay really cheap and very good quality.

Some places they cost a fortune so shop around but they really do show off higher quality jewellery a lot better.

Make your price tags different

I used Vistaprint to print business cards with my logo at the top and made them into price tags and display cards. Very effective and I got the idea from this website.

Remember this was my first craft fair and since this I have learnt a lot.

This was on a small budget and did me very good. BUT I missed some important factors, don't you do the same.

I needed a lighting solution and to raise my displays so I had some jewellery at eye level.

But for a first time craft fair, I think I did ok, and people liked the fact my stall wasn't the norm.

Hope you all can get some ideas from it.

Thank you!

Thank you very much for the advice. I had my first craft show this past weekend and any tips for making my displays better are priceless!

I was wondering how you created your website. I would love to have one, but am unsure how to go about it.

Thank you!

My website
by: Marie

Thankyou for your kind comments. As for my website it was really easy actually and I'm sure you could do it too. I arranged my hosting which I pay 4.99 per month for and got my free domain name with it. Then I installed a free shop software called magento . It makes selling products really easy and you can get free templates to customise the look of your shop. My template is a brought one But there are some great free ones out there. I still have lots of jewellery to add to my shop but there's no rush and it's easy to do. Customers love it if you have a website and I've already had sakes by people from craft fairs taking my business card and then viewing the website. Good luck to you with it all .

Raising tables to eye (more or less) level
by: Anonymous

An inexpensive way to raise up your tables is to measure the diameter of the legs and purchase enough PVC pipe to raise all four legs of your table up to the desired height. The pvc pipe slips over the legs and you have a raised table. The pipe is strong enough, light weight and there are also "feet" available to put on the ends of the pipe. I spray painted mine black to "disappear". Hope this helps you.

pvc risers
by: Anonymous

but the problem with the risers is that the tablecloths are no longer floor length. does that mean you have to custom make the table cloths?
